9 Awesome Spots For A Cosy Sunset

There is nothing more quintessentially Cornish than enjoying a cosy sunset with friends, family, and loved ones.

We have collated our favourite 9 spots for those cosy sunsets. Have we missed any? Comment below and let us know!

When writing our first version, I sat watching the rain poor down in the middle of Cornwall. I dream of beautiful summer sunsets over the sea. Whenever I think of this I am immediately drawn to one spot.

1. Porthtowan

Cosy sunset at Porthtowan. Cliffs on the left, rock in the foreground with oranges and pinks in the sky over the sea.

A delightful beach surrounded by cliffs on both sides. There are plenty of benches, little spots on the cliff and lots of sand to sit down and enjoy the sun coming down over the water.

You can watch the surfers glide across the glistening water. The cute dogs run through the sand, chasing unattended BBQ food. There is even a natural pool if you want to enjoy it from the sea without the waves.

There are two pubs (The Blue Bar and The Unicorn) and a lovely cafe (The Beach Cafe) so if you’d like to watch that sun go down as your glass empties then the village has you covered.

2. Porthmeor

Cosy sunset at Porthmeor. Shoreline in the foreground with buildings on the right in the background and the headland on the left. Sky is filled with pink and purple colours.

Another beach but this time a little further south. St Ives is a very popular destination and has plenty of facilities. In the early summer, you can expect beautiful cosy sunsets right over the water.

Porthmeor Beach Cafe will have you covered for your immediate needs. There are often cinema screens, food festivals and more to keep you entertained.

Honestly, parking isn’t the easiest in St Ives and we would recommend getting the train if you can. If you do drive down plan to be in St Ives for the whole day and let the cosy sunset adventure be the cherry on the cake.

3. Marazion

Dramatic sunset on the beach at Marazion with St Michaels Mount in the distance, Cornwall England UK Europe

Moving around the coast some more we hit Marazion. Home to St Michael’s Mount, Marazion beach and Long Rock beach. All of those places are amazing places to watch a sunset.

Long Rock is dog-friendly all year round if you have a pooch you’d like to snuggle up with for the evening. It’s also a really beautiful spot for some snorkelling and diving if that’s your thing.

Marazion is another wide and long beach, with St Michael’s Mount off the coast. Often very windy so if you are going be sure to bring something to wrap up in. Why not use one of our blankets, designed exactly for this occasion?

4. Wheal Coates & St Agnes Head

Sunset over the Wheal Coates engine house. On the left is the sea with the sun going down in an orange haze. On the right is the grass and gorse of the coast path with the engine house sitting on the path.

This beautiful part of the South West Coast Path is a National Trust area and has a car park, free to National Trust Members.

The iconic old mining infrastructure of Wheal Coates is stunning as it is. Watching the sun go down over the cliffs is magical. If you want a bit of a walk head right out of Wheal Coates along to St Agnes Head.

A beautiful, natural rock formation that offers views all along the North coast. Look North up to Perranporth and South to Carbis Bay.

5. Gylly Beach

A cosy sunset over Gylly beach. Sat on the sand the picture shows the small waves making their way over deep orange sand. The sun is in the sky and glows orange and purple.

Gyllyngvase, better known as Gylly Beach is in the heart of Falmouth. On the South coast, the water is much calmer here and is fantastic for swimming and kayaking.

Falmouth is in a unique place in Cornwall as it looks out into the sea with the Lizard peninsular on its right. Mammals swimming to the Atlantic have to go around and the waters off Falmouth are ripe with seals, spider crabs, basking sharks and more. So if you like a cosy sunset with some playful dolphins then this is for you (if you are very lucky).

6. Lands End

There is something special about this place. The history, the legacy, the incredible landscape.

Coming here for sunset means a bit of walking for the truly special spots. The cliffs are rocky and Jurassic. Exploring this incredible place is definitely a wonderful way of experiencing a cosy sunset. Might be worth popping on a pair of walking socks.

7. Port Issac

Sunset in Port Issac harbour. There are some boats gently floating in the calm waters of the harbour inside the harbour wall. The sky is orange, pink and blue with lots of broken clouds.

A little on from Padstow this beautiful fishing village now known for its restaurants and cafes is a wonderful place to take in the sunset.

You could take a boat out, walk along the cliffs, or find a pub with a sea view (like The Golden Lion). Or you can spend some time in the harbour. There is a lot to do in this little town but don’t feel like you have to.

Just grab some snacks and sit on the sand!

8. Newquay

Sunset at Bedruthan Steps. Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps is a stretch of coastline located on the north Cornish coast between Padstow and Newquay, in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom

I probably could have taken up half this list with the different beaches of Newquay and the surrounding area up to Mawgan Porth.

There are so many beautiful beaches. Fistral if you are after a sunset surf, Watergate Bay if you need a big beach for your dog to run around and Towan if you want to be close to the shops.

A favourite activity of ours is to watch the sunset at a lovely restaurant Catch in Mawgan Porth. You’re also pretty close to the Bedruthan, which has one of the best spas with sea views in Cornwall. If you’re feeling fancy that is!

9. Kudhva

Sunset over the tipi tents at Kudhva. There are 3 tents visible with the sea in the background. The sky is electric pink as the sun dips behind the water.

Last and certainly not least on my list is Kudhva.

I’ve only been a couple of times but this place leaves a mark on your soul. During the summer months, they host various events of talks, dinners and more. Here you can be completely off-grid and one with nature.

The sun goes down over the sea with the site not far from Trebarwith beach but once it does the place becomes even more magical. Pack yourself a bag with the essentials for your trip and reconnect with yourself and the earth.
